Look at that person!
Why does he look different?
Why is she doing that?
A child may have hundreds of questions about why people around them look differently.
This book explores innocent questions and gives gentle answers that normalise the differences. These encounters and explanations encourage acceptance and diversity.
In the end, the book reveals that all the people the children see come together at the voting booth because it is an election day. And everyone, no matter how they look, have equal rights to vote and be represented in a democratic country.
"Mom, Look at That Person" is one of the books in the first series of social-driven picture books, Wadwang Nangsue, that have stirred the traditional view and expectation on children's books in Thailand. The two book sets attempt not only to develop the children but also to move the whole society forward to the kinder and more open-minded ideal.
