Mawn Soffer
was born and grew up in Bangkok, Thailand, and used to be a teacher in a hill tribe village in a rain forest near the Thai-Burmese border and a special-day class teacher in California. Mawn loves children and books. She started writing children’s books when she moved to Israel in 2006. Mawn has published 180 books in Thailand and has won many awards. Over 50 of her books were translated and sold in other countries.
Hoping to increase diversity in Thai children’s books, in 2021, Mawn started WadWang (วาดหวัง) group to publish non-mainstream books. The group encourages new writers and illustrators, and many of its books are about hope, human rights, democracy, and freedom.
The current Thai government attempted to ban five of the first eight books. However, with readers being hungry for such books, over 18,000 copies of the book series were sold in four days.
Children's Books Out There is proudly representing WadWang books and Mawn's novelty books in SEA and Europe.
